A little over 150 people were in attendance at the Locus Wines Fall Party on Saturday, November 17th. The weather was dry and sunny and the people festive. The brand new 2015 Locus Cabernet Franc and 2015 Locus Red were qualified hits and the food hit the mark. Here are a few things you missed out on, unless you were here of course…. These parties do not happen automagically. We rely on our awesome friend-volunteers (Birgit, Carol, Collene,Eric, Josh, Jeanie, Lindsey, Tori) and family (Shama, Scott, Tony). Add an amazing group of select culinarians from Seattle Culinary Academy to serve in the kitchen (Chris, Ell, Fox, Daniel, Coco, Emily and Jack) and only then, magic.
This is great for us business-wise but also bittersweet. 2017 Locus Rosé was special: It won GOLD at the Seattle Wine Awards few months ago and it was a surprisingly crisp, well-balanced wine with complex fruit flavors, with a bone dry finish. Very Southern Rhone-like.

It’s Cinco de Mayo. It is the official opening day of boating season. Many reasons to celebrate. To that end, Hotel Bellwether in Bellingham, WA will host their second annual “Spring Fling” Wine Social at the Lighthouse Grill and Water Front Terrace on Saturday, May 5th from 5pm-8pm with special VIP access from 4pm-5pm. The Hotel Bellwether Spring Fling is a premier wine & food event showcasing 25+ wineries from around the world, with a spotlight on the Pacific Northwest. Locus Wines will showcase 2017 Locus Rosé (recently the winner of Gold medal at the 2018 Seattle Wine Awards), 2016 Locus Modo White and 2016 Locus Modo Red at the event. Not just showcase but sell at the event too. Come say hi to winemaker Rich Burton who will be on hand to pour the wines.
Finding yourself exclaiming “Spring is finally here!” only to wake up the next morning to snow and ice? We’d be lying if we said that hadn’t happened to us. Well, we’ve decided to take matters into our own hands, Mother Nature be damned. It’s time to officially usher in the sunshine and warmth with our annual Locus Spring Release Party!
Come join us on Saturday, April 21st from 2-6pm at 1515 Madrona Drive, Seattle, WA 98122 as we introduce the world to two new wines: the more-fragrant-than-it-has-a-right-to-be 2017 Locus Rosé and the 2016 Locus Modo Red – the Official Red Wine of Summer (we’re calling it now). As always, we will also be pouring all current releases and our resident culinarian will be pairing each wine with a spring-inspired culinary treat. Here is the wine lineup for the tasting:
2017 Locus Rosé – NEW (Grenache. Cinsault, Mourvédre blend)
2016 Locus Rosé (Grenache. Cinsault, Mourvédre blend)
2016 Locus Modo White
2016 Locus Sémillon, Dineen Vineyards
2016 Locus Modo Red – NEW
2014 Locus Red (GSM blend)
2015 Locus Nord (Syrah heavy blend, in Northern Rhone style)
PLEASE NOTE: we’re making two changes to the usual format. There will be a check-in table at the start of your tasting experience at which we will check IDs (21 and over only, please). We will also collect a $5 tasting fee per person. Don’t worry, though, it will be refunded with any purchase. Socius Wine Club members will have the fee waived.
Northern Rhone-style (Nord) or Southern-Rhone style (Sud), it doesn’t matter. They are both Gold medal winners! 2015 Locus Nord and 2015 Locus Sud were both crowned Gold medal winners at the 2018 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition in their categories, Syrah Dominant Blends and Grenache Dominant Bends, respectively. 2016 Locus Rosé won a Silver medal in the Dry Rosé/Blush category.
San Francisco Chronicle wine competition (SFCWC) is the largest competition of American wines in the world. After receiving 6,960 entries from 35 states across the country, SFCWC has once again successfully narrowed thousands of wines down to an exclusive few. You can find a complete list of winners on their website, http://winejudging.com/
SFCWC holds a special place in Locus Wines team’s hearts since it was the first competition where the 2014 Locus Modo Red won an award, which led to further recognition at other competitions and review sites, like Wine Spectator and the Wine Enthusiast.
The award for 2015 Locus Sud is very exciting but it comes at a bittersweet time, where the its inventory is counting down fast to zero. There are about 15 cases left of the 250+ cases produced.
November means it’s time for another Locus red to be released. This year, we’re happy to introduce the 2015 Locus Nord, the yin to the yang of the 2015 Locus Sud. “Nord” is the French word for “north” and we’ve fashioned this wine after some of our favorite Northern Rhône blends, which must be Syrah-dominant by law. It’s 64% Syrah (from the Strand and Gamache vineyards), 23% Cinsault and 13% Mourvèdre (both from the 7 Mile vineyard). While the Syrah dominates, the Cinsault brings bold fruit to the front of the palette, while the Mourvèdre adds a dark finish. We’re excited to share our inaugural Nord blend with the masses!
As always, we’ll be showcasing the current line-up of Locus wines, all paired with specially-designed culinary bites from Esca Catering. There will also be an exclusive treat in store for our Socius wine club members to enjoy. Come join us to celebrate the start of the holiday season and the release of the 2015 Locus Nord!
Sunshine and Sémillon…. Finally, summer is here. So is the 2016 Locus Sémillon.
Please join us to celebrate the arrival of our annual single vineyard white. We will pour the new 2016 release alongside the 2015 version (it’s always fun to compare) and we may even have a few bottles of the older vintage to sell to wine club members, too. We are also going to preview the 2015 Locus Nord, the older and slightly more serious cousin to the bright and happy Sud. If you like it, you can purchase futures at a great discount to pick up in November. As always, we’ll be pouring through most of our current releases (and, most likely, a surprise wine) and pairing everything with delicious bites from Ton’s catering company, ESCA.
RSVP on Facebook or send us an email if you replying for multiple guests (firstname.lastname@example.org). There are no fees for this kid-free tasting. We define kids as those under 18 and those who act like kids. We only serve wine to adults 21 and older years of age.
