Time for a wine tasting party. Again.

It’s been almost 4 months since the last one and it is about time. Come join us on Saturday, November 12th, 2016, from 2-7PM at 1515 Madrona Drive, Seattle, WA 98122 to welcome the 2014 Locus Red, our Rhône blend to the Locus portfolio.

The new vintage is a blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre and as those of you at the summer party who got to preview it last July can attest, it is even better than our well-received 2013 Locus Red (91 points from Wine Spectator, Gold from SF Chronicle and Best of Show in Minnesota Food & Wine Experience). As always, we will pair the wines with creative bites from our resident culinary professional Ton Yazici’s new catering venture, ESCA.

What are we drinking, you ask? The following, and knowing us a few more probably:

  • 2015 Locus Rosé (yeah, the summer is gone but Thanksgiving is near)
  • 2014 Locus Modo
  • 2015 Locus Garage Series Red Blend – NEW, FALL EVENT ONLY

Locus Wines Summer Party: July 9th, 3-7PM in Madrona

The Summer is (almost) here. So is the 2015 Locus Sémillon.

Please join us to celebrate the arrival of our annual Bordeaux-style white on Saturday, July 9th, 3-7PM at 1515 Madrona Drive, Seattle, WA 98122.

You say “rain in the forecast”? We say, no problem. We got tents and there is plenty room inside to cover us all. Only in Seattle (or southern hempishere) that April event would be held outside at 81 degrees, July one inside at 65.

We will pour the new one and a vertical of the Sémillons of the past, the usual Locus lineup, plus a few summer party-only ones (Hello, light, young and bright 100% Cinsault).

Invite others. More the merrier.

We are also going to preview the 2014 Locus Red, our first GSM (Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdré blend). If you like it, you can purchase futures at a great discount, for pick up in November or at our Fall Release Party.  It is tasting so well that our resident culinarian Ton is mildly panicked that it may end up becoming a better wine than his ‘baby,’ the 2013 Locus Red – a Syrah Grenache blend. As always, we will pair the wine with delicate bites.  Here is the lineup:

Absinthe Brasserie in Belltown Triples Down on Locus Wines

absinthe logoAbsinthe Brasserie in Belltown (corner of 1st Ave and Battery) neighborhood of Seattle is tripling down on Locus Wines. 2015 Locus Sémillon, 2015 Locus Rosé (of Cinsault, Grenache and Mourvèdre) and 2014 Locus Modo Red (Merlot blend). All three wines are all available by the glass and by the bottle at the new digs.

Cecy Graf, a native of New Orleans who worked for 15 years as a financial manager for a Seattle law firm, opened Absinthe Brasserie, taking over what had been Lost Pelican, and before that Bisato and Lampreia.

A6tag_300516-175549bsinthe Brasserie is offering eight absinthe labels with more coming in the near future: Pacifique, Grüne Fée, La Clandestine, Butterfly, St. George, Lucid, and Nouvelle Orleans in addition to Pernod Absinthe. The menu is unapologetically Creole fare. Cecy is working with Chef Dan to revamp the menu to a NOLA glory.

Obviously, Absinthe is not a wine bar but Cecy wasn’t happy with the wine list that she inherited from previous establishment and decided to improve it before the space’s Grand Opening over the Memorial Day weekend.

Pink Locus and Red Cow Together at Last in Madrona

Red CowRed Cow, an Ethan Stowell restaurant in Madrona is pouring the 2015 Locus Rosé by the glass. This is Locus Wines’ third appearance in an Ethan Stowell establishment so we are practically best friends with the man! (Nope, we don’t know him and we are pretty sure he has no idea who we are)

Red Cow is a French brasserie in the very classical sense of the word, making their charcuterie in house and serving seasonal concoctions of chef Will Richey daily starting right at 5PM. The Southern Rhone style Rosé goes well with the fare, especially as the weather starts warming up for what we hope is a long summer. Go get a glass of the Rosé now. Or soon.

PCC Natural Markets Now Retails Locus Wines

A__E5E7_editedPCC Natural Markets started carrying Locus Wines. They started with the 2014 Locus Modo Red and the 2014 Locus Semillon from Dineen Family Vineyards.

Here is how they describe it (beautifully by the way): “Merlot is the star of this show, with a stellar supporting cast of malbec, syrah and cabernet sauvignon. Crisp, ripe blueberry starts the aroma wheel, with a tinge of nutmeg…”We will leave it to you to finish the rest on the PCC shelves.

 

Fall Release Open House on Saturday, Nov 14th, 1-6PM in Madrona

Come join us for our November release party and taste the all current Locus releases and meet the three new members of the lineup: The 2013 Keller Syrah and the 2014 Modo Red, as well as the November event-only edition of Rich’s “Garage” Sémillon dedicated to our Baby Beyaz, who will only be joining us in spirit from now on.

IMG_0300.jpg (small)The 2013 Locus Keller Vineyard Syrah is our first 100% Naches Heights AVA wine. It’s a relatively small, higher elevation vineyard from which we are extremely excited about sourcing fruit on a regular basis. The wine is elegant and refined, and soon to be extinct: We produced only 48 cases.

The 2014 Locus Modo Red is ourDocument Name_20151018_edited1_smaller first foray into the “value wine” market (i.e. cheap and cheerful, easy-drinking… Modo means now, ready in Latin). It’s a blend of Merlot, Malbec, Syrah, and Cab. We believe it’s delicious and actually find it pretty rich in tannin (fancy way of us saying ‘it will last a few years’).

The 2014 Locus “Garage” Sémillon is the winemaker’s pet project. At last summer’s release party, you all were mad we could not sell the garage wines. This time we can (special permit apparently). The wine is dedicated to our recently deceased dog/child, Beyaz. We somehow thought she’d outlive us all. Alas, not the case. We will sell bottles of Beyaz Sémillon at $10 per bottle. $5 from each bottle sale will go to Seattle Humane Society – folks who blessed us with 13+ plus years of happiness and the occasional disapproving looks.

As always, we will pair the wines with creative bites from our resident Culinary Arts student: We’ve got some old favorites (hello, lamb pastry!) along with some new ones (cider-braised pork belly, handmade pasta, rye berry and buckwheat groats with chanterelles, and more) that will pair brilliantly with the Locus wines.

The Harbor General Store in Gig Harbor Welcomes Locus

The Harbor General Store in Gig Harbor, WA started carrying Locus Wines. And with a vengeance: They carry all of the current wines, 2014 Locus Dineen Vineyard Semillon, 2014 Locus Rosé, 2013 Locus Rhone-style red and 2012 Locus StoneTree Vineyard Syrah.

Located at 7804 Pioneer Way Gig Harbor, WA 98335, the store is a throwback to times when a general store was the place to go and get supplies, gifts, etc. It’s always very satisfying/gratifying/humbling to see that our wines fit within the values of the local (unique, handcrafted) businesses.

Canal Market in Portage Bay Neighborhood to Retail Locus Wines

cm_header-logoCanal Market is famous local foodservice personality Ericka Burke’s post-Volunteer Park Cafe endeavor in the Portage Bay neighborhood. The idea is similar to Cone & Steiner in the 19th Ave corridor in Capitol Hill, but maybe a bit more complex, with fresh pastries, opportunity for sit-down breakfast and lunch service.

According to the Canal Market’s website, the market is “a modern-day take on an old-fashioned mercantile, offering a varied selection of groceries and home goods.” The market offers a full breakfast buffet, ready-made salads, cheeses, and charcuterie, as well sandwiches. It is also a pretty good place for gifts.

Canal Market started selling Locus Wines (specifically the 2014 Locus Rosé) in June/July time frame and we at Locus appreciate that very much. Portage Bay, consider yourself saved, thanks to Ericka Burke.

2nd Vintage Release Open House on Saturday, June 20th, 2-7PM in Seattle

We’ve had a great year since we launched in July of 2014. Now it is time to release vintage #2. Well, our 2014 white and rose (2014 Locus Semillon from Dineen Vineyards, 2014 Locus Rose of Grenache, Cinsault and Mourvedre), as well as the 2013 red (Grenache/Syrah blend) has been out for a few months but we are still looking to celebrate it (or finding an excuse to party?). New Vintages of the Locus White, Rosé and Red Are Officially Released

This is probably coming as absolutely no surprise to you if you’ve been following us but nevertheless, it is official! The 2014 Locus Dineen Vineyard Semillon, the 2014 Locus Rosé (Grenache, Mourvedre and Cinsault) and the 2013 Locus Red (Grenache and Syrah blend) are officially in the market. You can read more about the wines on the Wines page and even order them online at the Wine Store.

We think the Semillon is pretty similar to last year’s, if not slightly better, more rounded this time around.The Rosé is definitely different than last year: There is more citrus on the nose and the color reminds us of a true Rhone rosé. The red is from high elevation fruit resulting in a pretty kick ass Rhone blend that makes us proud.

A pretty bad picture of Tallulah’s Menu

In addition to offering the wines to our existing retail and restaurant partners, we have some new and exciting stuff in the works: We started offering our wines on tap and they are already out there. The new Rosé is already on tap (our first venture into tap wines) at Tallulah’s on Capitol Hill. Both the white (also on tap) and the rosé are available at Palace Kitchen.

Our winemaker, Rich Burton has been pouring the wines over the last few weeks and the feedback has been great. Here is to hoping for another year of good and affordable wine drinking.
