2014 Locus Modo Red, as it was known by all who knew it, ran out on November 15, 2017. All 661 cases of the 2014 Locus Modo Red were ‘born’ in November 2015 in Seattle, Washington, as an ‘entry’ level Merlot, Malbec, Syrah and Cabernet blend but surprised all (including us) by its level of sophistication and ability to impress even the connoisseurs of wine. It got great ratings and reviews and sold like hotcakes at the Northwestern bars and restaurants as an accessible glass pour. It was preceded in inventory expiration by its superior, 2013 Locus Syrah from Keller Vineyards which is another sad story to tell but we are too verklempt to address that right now).
Locus Modo Red is survived by 2016 Locus Modo White, 2016 Locus Sémillon, 2016 Locus Rose, 2015 Locus Sud, 2014 Locus Red and 2015 Locus Nord.
Could there be another Modo Red in the works? Yes, yes, there could be. Stay tuned.
In addition to Kirkland, Tukwila and Aurora Village COSTCO locations, Locus Wines are now available at Seattle SoDo location. You will find 2014 Locus Modo Red, a Merlot/Malbec blend as well as the 2015 Locus Sémillon from Dineen Vineyards.
We were at the Seattle COSTCO to promote the wines last weekend, and starting next week, we will infiltrate Everett and Covington locations. Dates TBD.
Locus Wines are infiltrating Costco locations in waves, starting this weekend at Tukwila SouthCenter Costco and then expanding in the metropolitan Seattle area stores. Specifically, Costco is going to carry the 2015 Locus Sémillon from Dineen Vineyard and the 2014 Locus Modo Red, a Merlot/Malbec blend.
To promote the new relationship, we (Locus folks and Barrique Imports crew in collaboration) are spending time at the various Costcos every Friday and Saturday to promote the wines, from 10AM to 6PM.
Yesterday, Rich and Barrique’s own Adrienne were on hand in Tukwila. Today, Barrique folks are going to continue the promotion. Barrique folks are going to continue with the presentations in Aurora location next weekend. Locus crew takes over Kirkland over the 2nd and 3rd of September. Please come and see us if you are in the neighborhood.
Here is the schedule for Costco presentations (not tastings):
August 19th, 10AM-6PM – Tukwila Costco
August 20th, 10AM-6PM – Tukwila Costco
August 26th, 10AM-6PM – Aurora Village Costco
August 27th, 10AM-6PM – Aurora Village Costco
September 2nd, 10AM-6PM – Kirkland Costco
September 3rd, 10AM-6PM – Kirkland Costco
Will Locus Wines sell at all Costcos? To be determined.
Join us at West Seattle PCC Natural Markets to taste the Locus Wines available at this and other PCC Natural Markets:

2014 Locus Modo Red, Columbia Valley, $15
Oh and there a special incentive for showing up at this event: A private tasting and dinner on July 9th from 7-10PM. This exclusive event will have a total of 20 participants and in addition to tasting all of the Locus Wines and food pairings from the release party earlier that day, you will join us for a plated dinner with food and wine that is not available in any other event we hold. Pretty damn exclusive, if you ask us. The experience is worth over $140 per person but if you qualify, it is free for you and a guest!
The catch: You need to show up at PCC Natural Markets on Saturday and buy a mixed case of wine. Then, you need to check in to the event there and tag us on Facebook. Yes, lots of work and money but you are getting a great case of wine plus a $280 worth experience for FREE in return.
Do it. Early. There are only 20 seats at that dinner table.
