2 Gold Medals and a Silver at 2018 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

Northern Rhone-style (Nord) or Southern-Rhone style (Sud), it doesn’t matter. They are both Gold medal winners! 2015 Locus Nord and 2015 Locus Sud were both crowned Gold medal winners at the 2018 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition in their categories, Syrah Dominant Blends and Grenache Dominant Bends, respectively. 2016 Locus Rosé won a Silver medal in the Dry Rosé/Blush category.

San Francisco Chronicle wine competition (SFCWC) is the largest competition of American wines in the world. After receiving 6,960 entries from 35 states across the country, SFCWC has once again successfully narrowed thousands of wines down to an exclusive few. You can find a complete list of winners on their website, http://winejudging.com/

SFCWC holds a special place in Locus Wines team’s hearts since it was the first competition where the 2014 Locus Modo Red won an award, which led to further recognition at other competitions and review sites, like Wine Spectator and the Wine Enthusiast.

The award for 2015 Locus Sud is very exciting but it comes at a bittersweet time, where the its inventory is counting down fast to zero. There are about 15 cases left of the 250+ cases produced.

Locus Wines Fall Party: November 11th, 2-6PM in Madrona

November means it’s time for another Locus red to be released.  This year, we’re happy to introduce the 2015 Locus Nord, the yin to the yang of the 2015 Locus Sud.  “Nord” is the French word for “north” and we’ve fashioned this wine after some of our favorite Northern Rhône blends, which must be Syrah-dominant by law.  It’s 64% Syrah (from the Strand and Gamache vineyards), 23% Cinsault and 13% Mourvèdre (both from the 7 Mile vineyard).  While the Syrah dominates, the Cinsault brings bold fruit to the front of the palette, while the Mourvèdre adds a dark finish.  We’re excited to share our inaugural Nord blend with the masses!

As always, we’ll be showcasing the current line-up of Locus wines, all paired with specially-designed culinary bites from Esca Catering.  There will also be an exclusive treat in store for our Socius wine club members to enjoy.  Come join us to celebrate the start of the holiday season and the release of the 2015 Locus Nord!

Here is what the menu looks like:

Surprise! It’s the 2015 Locus Sud!

img_5611_edited_111416We like to call it our “Lemonade Moment” (if that reference is lost on you, ask a friend).

At our Fall Release party, we decided to debut a brand new wine way ahead of schedule.  Enter the 2015 Locus Sud, a young, upstart blend of 7 Mile Grenache and (84%) and Keller Syrah (16%).  Ten months in barrels and only three months in bottle, it’s tasting beautifully now – tart, expressive, and commanding attention.  Kind of like a millennial.  It’s our version of a Southern Rhône blend, hence the name Sud, which means South in French.

The best part is, the Sud will only be available directly from Locus – on our website, at our release events, or at The Tasting Room.

Second best part, or maybe the better part, is that, for a very limited time, the Sud is available for a discount on the Locus online portal for $19/bottle (plus case discount as applicable) until January 2017.
