After the Seattle winter we’ve had, it’s time we all had a bit of rosé and some sun. We can guarantee the rosé, not sure about the sun though. Come join us on Saturday, April 27th from 2-6PM as we introduce the world to four new wines:
- 2018 Locus 7 Mile Rosé
- 2018 Locus Garage Series Rosé of Cinsault
- 2018 Locus Naches Heights Sauvignon Blanc
- 2016 Locus Sagemoor Barbera
This will be the biggest, release-iest party in Locus history! As always, we will also pour some of our other current releases:
- 2015 Locus Red
- 2015 Locus Keller Syrah
- 2015 Locus Nord
Our resident culinarian, Ton Yazici will pair each wine with a spring-inspired culinary treats.
A few other items to note for the release event:
- There is a $5 tasting fee per person, refunded with any purchase. Socius Wine Club members always have the tasting fee waived. So do culinary arts students and trade!
- No one under 21 allowed. Our dog might eat the small humans.
To ensure that the event stays comfortable and safe for all (and that we have enough wine for all guests), limit sampling of wines to a single pour during the event.
- Socius Club members: To allow you to get a jump-start on the tasting before the crowds arrive, we’ll open the doors at 1:30 exclusively for you.
WHEN: Saturday, April 27th from 2-6PM
WHERE: 1515 Madrona Dr, Seattle 98122
TASTE Washington is here again.
We are going to showcase some of the new, some of the existing wines at the TASTE Washington Grand Tasting event, taking place Saturday, March 30th and Sunday March 31st, from 2:30-6PM.
This two-day tasting event gathers over 235 Washington wineries, 65 top restaurants, renowned local and national chefs, and more – all for the enjoyment of your taste buds.
It’s near impossible to sample everything at the Grand Tasting, but the most determined wine- and food-lovers will certainly try. And don’t forget! Grand Tasting VIP ticket holders receive early access, with a special VIP-only hour from 1:30pm – 2:30pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
Come join Bottlehouse’s month-long program to support local winemakers during the month of March. As they called it, “curated tastings from Washington’s best every Sunday from 4 to 6 PM.” The wines will be there for tasting as well as glass pours and retail specials.
Bottlehouse, a wine bar in the Madrona neighborhood in Seattle, is especially near and dear to our hearts, since they were early supporters of Locus Wines. They have featured many Locus offerings by the glass and had our rose, Modo red as well as a special red that we had produced only for our keg program (Locus Tank #2) on tap. Not only that, when the Bottlehouse family expanded with Mr. West (downtown Seattle and soon in University Village mall), they featured Locus Wines in some of the new establishments as well.
Come chat with Rich Burton or simply taste the wines and see the City Cellars Fine Wines’ selection of wines. The tasting will take place from 5 to 7 PM, and any tasting fees are refundable with purchase. City Cellars is located at 1710 North 45th Street in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle. More information on City Cellars website.
On Saturday, Locus Wines winemaker Rich Burton is pouring the line up at the Hellam’s Vineyard wine store from 1 to 6PM. The daffodils are out so maybe in between visiting the fields, you should stop by. More information on the Hellam’s Vineyard website.
Socius (Locus Wines wine club) wine club’s second annual bistro event was a big one, compared to last year’s. We had over 100 folks with us at the beautiful Seattle Culinary Academy, tasting the past (2014 Rosé, 2016 Locus Rosé, 2014 Locus Modo Red, 2013 Locus Red) and some of the future (2016 Barbera, 2016 Cabernet Sauignon and 2016 Locus Strand Vineyard Syrah) Locus Wines releases, while nibbling on rabbit paté, cheeses and other goodness. Those club members who couldn’t make it: We are sorry but you should be sorry too. You missed out. We will catch you next time.
Here are some crowd-sourced imagery from the event. Thank you, Alice G. and others for the impromptu photography work.
Our proprietary blend does it again and in an even more spectacular manner: The 2015 Locus Red won Double Gold in the Rhone blend category, besting its previous vintage iterations (2013 Locus Red and 2014 Locus Red won Gold in the same competition, in 2016 and 2018, respectively). The international San Francisco Chronicle wine competition is the largest international wine competition in the U.S., receiving more than 6,900 wines for consideration this year alone. Congratulations to us and to all the other wineries that put their heart and soul to these products.
A blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre and Cinsault, 2015 Locus Red is playful, bright with enough heft and tannins that show aging potential. We released the wine at the November 2018 release party. We will celebrate the win once again at the April 2019 Spring party.
Also awarded at this year’s competition is the 2016 Locus Modo Red (SILVER) and soon to be released 2017 Locus Sémillon (SILVER).
The winery may be located in Seattle and the wines are made in Yakima but we sure get some sweet support from the Eastern-most end of the state. Spokane has been a very supportive market for Locus Wines and we want to acknowledge (re-acknowledge in some cases), the businesses that really welcomed us. Thank you, Spokane. We are not there too often but we sure feel the love.
In October and November 2018 timeframe alone, four new establishments added Locus to their offerings:
- Lantern Tap House
- Latah Bistro
- Wild Sage
- No-Li Brewhouse
The following businesses have featured us in the past, and some of them, like Left Bank, seem to like us enough to keep coming back:
- Bottles (Spokane Valley)
- The Grain Shed
- Indaba Café
- Left Bank
- Manito Tap House
- Nectar Wine and Beer
- Rocket Market
- Steel Barrel
- Yokes Argonne #11
